Late

Been keeping track of this someplace else. Finally decided to just do another blog here :) So this will just be copy and pasted.

I love fish. I've had fish for over 4 years. The one fish that I have kept the most of are betta splendens. First egg layer I've gotten to spawn as well. I've had em in little tanks (2 gallons-10 gallons) and the biggest I have had some in was in a 30 gallon tank. They were with some gouramis and there was one male to maybe 4 females.

.....Now I am going big! I have a 55 gallon tank and its gonna be a betta tank with a little experiment...2 male betta. I've been doing research and people say "one male per tank" because bettas aren't usually kept in such big tanks. The biggest tank that betta are usually kept in is a 10 gallon which is NOT big enough for two males but a 50 is a really good size to give you a really good chance of keeping 2 males together. Male betta live in the wild together and the reason they can do that is because they have a lot of space to escape and since betta have small territories, the chased male should be out of the attack zone in a short swim. My 55 gallon tank will pretty much give each male over 25 gallons of water to himself.

Got my four females in the tank. Panda and Sky are the biggest. They still need to figure out the pecking order. Poor Strawberry gets chased a lot by the two but her fins are lovely and she eats and everything so I'm not worried. Cherry on Top kind of just putters around above a big flat rock. Gonna try to find my gouramis this weekend and maybe get some more much needed plants as well as scope out either some more females or some more males that might be good candidates for the big tank.
•Some other fish for consideration
-Chocolate gourami (I will not give up on you!)
-Some kind of dwarf gourami (genus colisa)

I added one of my males to the 55 gallon tank. He might not remain in there because he's a little more feisty but I thought he might chill the females out. He seems to have calmed down the constant pecking order battle so that's nice. Now all the females want to do is be next to him and leave each other alone.

Had a power head and turned it off. The bubble making disc and the water from the filter are enough for them I think unless i reposition the flow to hit some dead zones so nothing yucky settles.

Though I do remember in my 10 gallon when I had betta....they would all line up beside the flow from the filter, throw themselves into the current, get pushed to the bottom, and then swim back up to get a breath and do it again!

December 6
Got two more female betta and got 2 male betta....I think these will be my tank mate candidates. They sit in their little containers next to each other and pay no mind. I also got some huge floating and "planted" plants so they can have hiding places and such. One male is all blue the other is red with a patch of golden scales.

December 7
Go my male pearl gourami. Mad because I could have had my pair by now but meh...got 4 more female betta and a delta tail male. He is FOR SURE going into the 55 gallon. BEAUTIFUL. Wish i could show a pic.

December 9
I have my pair of gouramis, my delta male, and my 4 new female betta in my tank(now totaling 8 ). I got 2 super lovely plastic plants that are very long so the float up on the top as well. Everyone looks happy...everyone is eating. I am re-considering adding another male betta with my delta tail only because his tail is BEAUTIFUL. If i add another male I know there will be fin breakage and in regular betta, I can get over it till it heals but not this guy. We'll see.

We went to the pet shop to take a look at the chocolate gouramis they had and in the week they were at the shop, they all got ich and some were missing (probably dead) So sadly I looked at the other tanks and I saw kuhli loaches! The bottom fish I SO wanted but couldn't find was found. So i picked up 4 of them. I really wanna try the chocos but i wont try with already sick fish. next time....we'll see.
